Arizona Rock Hounds documents the characters who orbit the international gemstone trade. Invited by opal miner Rod Griffin and his family, the artist travelled to Arizona to photograph a vivid cross section of activity at the QIA PowWow Gem & Mineral Show & Tucson Gem & Mineral Show in 2024.

Expanding on Rachael’s earlier work with opal miners in the South West Queensland desert, the project traces a line from remote Australian diggings to the global marketplace, where precious stones shift hands and unique connections are made.
